About Me

Laurah J.
I currently serve as an ESOL Coach for my school district in Maryland. I work with both ESOL and mainstream teachers to help them improve the quality of their instruction for their English language learners. During my career, I have taught grades K-8, with most of that time spent working with grades 4-8.

I lead a lot of professional development for my school district on a variety of topics related to recognizing and serving the needs of ELLs, as well as the use of Educational Technology to encourage and support language growth. I have also been to Busan, S. Korea, twice to  conduct teacher training programs on Content Based English Instruction Curriculum for Korean mainstream public school teachers working for the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education.

I love sharing what I learn with teachers, and so you'll often find me presenting at conferences. Since January 2015, I've presented at SDE's Maryland K Conference, WIDA National Conference, FETC, ISTE and TESOL International Convention. I've also been published in ASCD's Educational Leadership magazine.

I hold a Master of Science from the University of Tennessee in Foreign Language and ESL Education. I am licensed to teach PreK-12 ESOL and Middle Grades Language Arts in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Maryland. I'm also a Certified Google Education Trainer.

I love teaching students and teachers, always strive to make learning exciting no matter who my audience is!
